In collaboration with engineering firms CH2M HILL, HNTB, and David Evans & Associates, MacDonald Architects provided the aesthetic designs for the replacement of the Sixth Street Bridge in Los Angeles. Above, is a night time rendering of the "3-Dual Tower Cable Supported Viaduct" design that was presented to the City of Los Angeles as a possible replacement for the bridge over the Los Angeles River.

Mr. MacDonald has maintained a strong relationship with these engineering teams in order to incorporate community input into the design process. He acted as a liaison between the Department of Transportation, the Bureau of Engineering, and the Los Angeles communities which surround this project. He attended many public hearings and held public design charrettes to lead a productive discussion on the importance of designing a bridge that the community will love for generations. His involvement in the public outreach campaign for support of the new replacement bridge for Sixth Street Bridge led to Mr. MacDonald providing seventeen different design concepts related to the Historic Los Angeles River Bridges, which he presented to the public and Los Angeles City Officials.
