As the gateway to Larkspur Landing, the new Central Marin Ferry Connection, which passes over the busy Sir Frances Drake Boulevard, gives its community a rare opportunity for rebranding itself by creating something unique and special. MacDonald Architects, working with Biggs Cardosa Associates took inspiration from the surrounding signature structures, such as the Larkspur Ferry Terminal Space Frame and the wooden railroad trestle.

We viewed colors as a very important tool in highlighting the bridge structure. The color white is representative of the Larkspur Ferry Terminal Space Frame and is also the color that allows shadows to read best.

This new bridge is a significant connecting piece to the local communities which are separated by Highway 101 and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The bridge serves to connect two of Marin County's bike paths at a very busy and dangerous intersection. It also encourages the future development of the SMART train over the Corte Madera Creek to towns further south, making it a key transportation hub for the Bay Area.
